How to Get a Wegovy Prescription Online in Georgia

The short version for Georgia

About 35% of adults in Georgia had obesity in 2023, up from roughly 20% in 2000. Georgia Medicaid does not cover Wegovy for weight loss. It does cover GLP-1 medications when they are prescribed for type 2 diabetes. If you are in Georgia and paying for Wegovy yourself, or working through a prior authorization with a commercial plan, you are the norm here, not the exception.

Nothing in them attributes the trend to any medication, and this page does not claim otherwise.

The state has been working on this for more than a decade. Georgia Shape, the statewide obesity prevention initiative run through the Georgia Department of Public Health since 2012, brings together more than 125 partners. Does Georgia Medicaid cover Wegovy?

For weight loss, no. Georgia Medicaid does not cover GLP-1 medications, including Wegovy, when the reason for the prescription is obesity. For type 2 diabetes, yes: GLP-1 medications prescribed for diabetes are covered. KFF tracks Medicaid coverage of GLP-1s state by state, and Georgia sits in the group of states that cover the diabetes indication only.

In practice, if you are a Georgia Medicaid member without a diabetes diagnosis, Wegovy will be an out-of-pocket medication. That is worth knowing before you start, because Wegovy is a long-term treatment and the plan has to be one you can sustain month after month.

Checked again against the Georgia Medicaid and PeachCare preferred drug list that took effect September 1, 2026: Wegovy and Zepbound do not appear on it for any adult use, and no anti-obesity drug class exists on the list. GLP-1s for type 2 diabetes such as Ozempic and Mounjaro are listed with prior authorization. Confirmed as of 2026-09-02.

Does Medicare cover Wegovy in Georgia?

Medicare's regular Part D benefit does not cover Wegovy for weight loss alone. That is federal law. What exists instead is the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge, a temporary program running July 1, 2026 through December 31, 2027. If you have Part D or a Medicare Advantage plan with drug coverage and meet the weight criteria (a BMI of 35 or more, or lower with certain heart, kidney, blood pressure, or prediabetes conditions), your provider requests prior approval and you pay a flat $50 a month for Wegovy. Part D can also cover Wegovy when it is prescribed for heart attack and stroke prevention, with prior authorization. Confirmed as of 2026-09-02. Rules change year to year, so check your plan.

Georgia has no state pharmacy assistance program that helps with GLP-1 costs, so the federal rules are what apply here.

Commercial insurance in Georgia

Georgia has no state mandate requiring commercial plans to cover GLP-1 medications for obesity. GLP-1s prescribed for diabetes are widely covered. Wegovy and Zepbound, the two prescribed for weight management, are covered inconsistently, and when they are covered it is often behind a prior authorization or a step therapy requirement, meaning you have to try and fail something else first.

The caveat that matters: coverage varies by plan and by employer, not by state. Two neighbors on the same street in Georgia can get completely different answers depending on who they work for. Georgia rules for getting a prescription online

Georgia allows a prescription to be written after a telemedicine visit, with two conditions that affect you. First, the prescriber treating a Georgia patient by telemedicine must hold a Georgia medical license. Georgia participates in the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact, which makes it easier for physicians licensed elsewhere to obtain a Georgia license, but they still need one. Second, the visit has to establish a valid provider-patient relationship under the Georgia Composite Medical Board's telemedicine rules. Wegovy is not a controlled substance, so the stricter rules that apply to controlled drugs do not come into play. What this means for you: any legitimate online service prescribing Wegovy in Georgia must have a Georgia-licensed provider reviewing your case. If a service cannot say that plainly, look elsewhere.

How to get Wegovy in Georgia, step by step

1. Tell us about you

3. Your prescription goes to your pharmacy

If approved, the prescription is sent electronically to the pharmacy you choose. Stock varies by pharmacy and can change week to week, so if your first choice cannot fill it, message us and the provider can redirect the prescription. 4. Ongoing support by chat 7 days a week

Dose increases, side effects, missed doses, pharmacy problems, and questions about eating and exercise are all handled by chat, seven days a week. You do not book a follow-up to move from one dose to the next. You message, and a provider responds.

What treatment looks like

Wegovy starts at 0.25 mg once a week and steps up over about 16 weeks to the full 2.4 mg dose. Starting low is what keeps side effects manageable. Most people begin losing weight in the first 4 to 8 weeks, with meaningful loss usually after 12 weeks or more. In clinical trials the average was about 15 percent of body weight over 68 weeks, and results vary.

Side effects and how to handle them

Nausea, constipation, bloating, headache and tiredness are the common ones. They usually settle within the first 2 to 4 weeks. Smaller meals, slower eating, and staying hydrated help. Tell your provider about severe stomach pain, vomiting that will not stop, or signs of gallbladder or pancreas problems.

Follow-up and monitoring

Check-ins at each dose step, then at least every 3 months. Weight, blood pressure, and how you are tolerating it. Labs only where your history calls for them.
