Getting certified for medical cannabis in New York can be done entirely online, and the visit is usually quicker than people expect. New York no longer issues plastic registry ID cards. Your signed certification carries a registry ID number and serves as your registration, and patients 18 or older are registered automatically with no separate application to file. The practitioner also provides a QR code that links to the state's Medical Cannabis Data Management System for you to present at the dispensary. There is no state fee to become a patient in the program.
Right away. There is no waiting period once you are certified. Nothing arrives in the mail, so there is nothing to wait for.
Bring your certification, on paper or on your phone, and a government-issued photo ID. You can visit any licensed New York dispensary, and there is a pharmacist on site to help you choose a product.
